  • 2 Gros Point De Venise

    An Italian needle-point lace having heavy raised designs forming horizontal scrolls, comparatively simple brides, and usually a straight edge, trimmed only with picots. The design is padded and button-holed along one edge, like the rose point. The lace was very fashionable about 1620 to 1650

  • 3 Argentan

    French needle-point lace - similar to Alencon - net ground with large patterns made higher and bolder than Alencon, closer toile than in Alencon, greater variety of brides, especially the bride picotee, the ground is the grande bride, a six-sided mesh. Early specimens called Point de France. It takes its name from Argentan (Normandy) where it was made. The patterns are bolder than in Alencon lace. Only specimens can now be seen, as the fabric is obsolete.

    The connecting threads across spaces in all needle-point laces, which join the various solid parts of the lace together. They are of numerous forms. Also known as Brides, Bride Claires, Coxcombs, Legs, Ties and Pearls.

    In needle-point laces the threads connecting the various parts of the pattern, twisted or plaited. They are actually small strips used to connect the parts of a design, and are substitutes for a ground fabric. Also termed Bars or Brides Claires.

    Formerly Dalmation needlepoint lace, similar to Point Venise. It now denotes patterns of picot edge silk or gold tape united with brides to form laces.

  • 7 Venetian Lace

    Guipure needlepoint lace made in Venice, reticella being the first variety. Later, Punto in Asia " stitches in the air " was the beginning of Point Venice. It consists of needlepoint motifs and designs joined with an irregular network of brides. It is used for dress trimmings and curtains.
